It is different, but I did say similar, they at least sound like they're within the same group of notes. Too bad they make only true stereo now a days otherwise I'd just flip the balance to left or right so I could hear the melody in Vessel a little better. + | i was listening to the GMO Funk version of vessel the other night and i swear i could almost make out the whispering in the background. i am perplexed as i thot the song was about the pills or parepin too, but after listening to the lyrics again "i define myself by how well i hide", which is not listed in the article, so i dunno, and also "i am turning into something else...i am turning into God", and such. what is meant by this? because my theory is what he says in the back may elude to another meaning for "vessel" and the song (which wouldn't b the 1st time there has been kind of double interpretations, now that we can go back and listen to some older songs w/fresh yr zero eyes) and so i want some folks to help me fig this out. i think this song can be interpreted in more than one way that fits the album concept. i am interested in what others think he is saying in the back...i know that the word vessel can also refer to a woman's ability to bear children in some spiritual symbology, and somehow, oddly this thot struck me as i was listening to it. hiding from? how hiding? mystified. can we make a brainstorm list of ideas or does someone know from the multitracks? |

Where should we add a miscellaneous note on how the warning sound from the art is resistance website is used in this song as a loop? Should we just make a miscellaneous section as there are for other songs? Jgrizzy89 16:38, 4 April 2007 (PDT)
I would add it to the information at the beginning of the article and provide an external link to the AIR website.Leo3375 16:55, 4 April 2007 (PDT)
Also - now that we all know, or can know, what this song sounds like, is there any point whatsoever to have the link that says it 'apparently sounds like Down In It'??? Jgrizzy89 17:15, 4 April 2007 (PDT)
- I don't see what's wrong with keeping reviews. It's always interesting to see what people who aren't random fans think. Pomte 22:35, 4 April 2007 (PDT)
Does anyone notice that this song DOESNT sound like down in it? I swear music reviews from magazines or first time listeners should be blasted apart. Rolling Stone is notorious for taking text excerpts from songs and mocking them (which I'm sure they'll do with God Given on YZ) yet they give high praises to Bob Dylan at the drop of a hat. Even though some of his lyrics are "I got contacts with lumberjacks". Whatever the F' that means, but RS is willing to overlook it and give any album he puts out and any band with Jack White in it a 5 out of 5. Velvolver 07:22, 5 April 2007 (PDT)
That's EXACTLY what I meant, I just didn't want to say it for fear of someone thinking that it does... However, I think it's a cross between Year Zero loops and Closer drum kit loops... Anyways~ I think maybe the reviewer was just reviewing to get publicity... Jgrizzy89 07:24, 5 April 2007 (PDT)
- Well the radio station or magazine that said YZ sounded a lot more stripped down was obviously run by idiots. Any dumbass could tell there's a huge amount of sampling involved, and even if you never listened to the songs, based on the quote by Reznor that he did the album nearly entirely on a laptop that it was going to have a lot of loops and junk. And further more, you can't base an opinion on an album from one listening. It's like trying to individually judge 16 tracks at once, it's way to f'in much to absorb and clearly judge-Velvolver 07:40, 5 April 2007 (PDT)
Alright, now that I've heard the song the comparison is hilarious. Pomte 04:19, 7 April 2007 (PDT)
Similar bell melodies
Is it just me or does this song have a similar/the same bell theme/melody found in The Greater Good? Zeelog1 1:59, 3 August 2007 (PDT)
- They're very different. And "The Greater Good" has a kalimba, not bells.--Leo3375 08:29, 3 August 2007 (PDT)
