It was both announced and digitally released on March 26, 2020, during the ''#STAYHOME'' initiative in the wake of [[wiki:COVID-19|COVID-19]] isolation due to viral outbreak worldwide.

It was released simultaneously with ''Ghosts''' second installment, ''[[Ghosts V: Together]]''.

The album was released alongside ''Ghosts V'', making them the only NIN release to date to be released on at the same date time as another Halo-assigned release.

The album was released unannounced, with a message from [[Trent Reznor]] and [[Atticus Ross]] on the [[nin.com ]] website

This release differs from its predecessor, in that ''[[Ghosts I-IV]] '' has no title for any of the four parts, nor do any of the track names have a title (simply carrying the track number to signify which track is which).
