Cool Down Daddy (originally named Odd Man Out) was a band formed in September 1987 [1] with Bruce Somers on drums (also producer for Slam Bamboo), Don Cook on guitar, and Sean Beavan on vocals and bass (who also worked on many Nine Inch Nails releases and related things, including Broken, Fixed, The Downward Spiral, Closer To God, Further Down The Spiral, Slam Bamboo, and Hanson: The Movie).
In spring 1988, they added Marty Step on keyboards (later in Exotic Birds) and rechristened themselves Cool Down Daddy. [2] Trent Reznor also played keyboards (concurrent with Step) for Cool Down Daddy for a brief time in 1988, before Nine Inch Nails. Step left at the end of 1988 and was replaced in January 1989 by Nick Rushe, who would later play keyboards in Nine Inch Nails during the "Pretty Hate Machine" Promotional Tour. [3] With Beavan joining and touring with Humble Pie starting in the summer of 1989, and otherwise being busy with engineering work, both in-studio and on the road, Cool Down Daddy essentially became defunct by the end of 1989. [4]
Cool Down Daddy had no releases besides two demo tapes, but were featured on the compilation Exhibit C: Ohio's Undercurrent, put out by Play Records in 1988. The song featured on the compilation is "Sometimes She Smiles". The song, as well as another song by Cool Down Daddy, "Nowhere", had music videos made.[5][6] Also featured on Exhibit C: Ohio's Undercurrent are: Paul Sanderson (backed by three Exotic Birds: Mark Best, Frank Vale, and Doug Beck), The Akt (Richard Patrick on vocals and guitar with Frank Vale on keyboards and backing vocals), and Serious Nature (Kevin Valentine producing, who played drums and percussion in The Innocent with Trent Reznor).
