The Innocent was the band Trent Reznor played with after leaving The Urge. The band was formed in 1983 as Hot Rodney, with Rodney Psyka on vocals, Alan Greene on guitar, and Gary Lee Jones on keyboards. Albritton McClain on bass and Kevin Valentine on drums joined the band in February 1985 to record their debut album. Because Jones was a staff producer for Red Label, he was unable to tour with the band. They auditioned fifteen keyboard players and selected Reznor as the touring keyboardist in March 1985. [1] [2]

The band was renamed The Innocent by June 1985.[3] The band's only album, Livin' In The Street, was released on Red Label Records. Reznor toured with the band during their "Livin' In The Street" mini-tour in August 1985, but left the band by September, with Jones taking over as touring keyboardist also now. [4] Reznor then rejoined The Urge after leaving the Innocent.
