Versions
The Mark Has Been Made (Alternate Version)
Running Time: 4:45

Released on The Fragile: Deviations 1. Also known as "The Mark Has Been Made" (Alt) when it was originally released on Apple Music as part of The Fragile Instrumental. This is a significantly different mix of the album arrangement.
Live
"The Mark Has Been Made" made its live debut on April 3, 2000. Backed by watery and flaming visuals from Bill Viola, the live structure remained basically the same except for the ending: the first section before the wah guitar was shortened, and the buildup following it was more concise. The last section saw the band erupting into an entirely new riff, one that seems to echo the ascending notes and rhythmic motif of "Somewhat Damaged" and "The Wretched", with Reznor wailing on top. It segued directly into "Wish."

"The Mark Has Been Made" was performed at every show of the Fragility v2.0 tour, but has not appeared since. It is one of a small number of live NIN songs to feature Trent Reznor on bass.
