Latest revision as of 23:47, 6 March 2025

Nine Inch Nails have pioneered the idea of giving away multitracks or song masters away to the general public for remix purposes. All multitracks were available for download from the fan-made site ninremixes.com. Alternatively, a selection of multitracks were available from the official NIN remix site, remix.nin.com. There were also multitracks available from releases by How To Destroy Angels, soundtracks by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, as well as from songs by a few other artists who have toured/collaborated with NIN.

The Fragile era

None of the songs from this era were released with complete multitracks.

In 1999, nin.com had multitrack clips up of two songs from The Fragile in swf format. "Starfuckers, Inc." was released as 21 separate 13-second files. "The Day The World Went Away" was released as 17 separate 14-second files.

"The Big Come Down" was also released as 15 separate files of varying lengths, as part of a remix contest.

With Teeth Era

"The Hand That Feeds" was the first of two songs to have multitracks released for With Teeth, released via nin.com on April 15th, 2005 in GarageBand format (with RAW AIFFs).

"Only" was released on June 25th, 2005 in more formats than the previous multitrack. It was available for Ableton Live, Pro Tools, GarageBand, and Sony Acid. The Pro Tools session has additional vocals that were not included elsewhere.

Year Zero era

"Survivalism" was the first of this album to be released on March 13th, 2007. The next batch of multitracks to be released were "God Given", "Me, I'm Not", "Capital G", "My Violent Heart" and "The Beginning of the End". The multitracks for every song on Year Zero were then made available with the physical release of Y34RZ3R0R3M1X3D. To coincide with the release, remix.nin.com was set up where users can upload, stream and download mixes, as well as download multitracks in .zip files.

Ghosts I–IV era

The multitracks for all the songs on Ghosts I–IV are included on a DVD-ROM as a part of the deluxe and ultra-deluxe editions of the album which were sold through ghosts.nin.com. Additionally, multitracks for the songs "10 Ghosts II", "19 Ghosts III", "26 Ghosts III","34 Ghosts IV" and "35 Ghosts IV" were available from remix.nin.com.

The Slip era

The multitracks for the single "Discipline" were made available on remix.nin.com at the same time it was released as a free download. Multitracks for the remaining songs on The Slip were made available on May 5, 2008 as a free download from remix.nin.com.

The Trilogy era

The multitracks for all the songs from Add Violence are available on record company internal-only discs that someone has obtained and made available for purchase (no one has purchased them yet). Some of these discs may be unofficial.

Other

In addition, the Pigface version of "Suck" was released as multitracks for a remix competition.

Following the release of Saul Williams' The Inevitable Rise And Liberation of NiggyTardust!, the multitracks for "Banged And Blown Through" and "Break" were made available for download from remix.nin.com.

Together with the NINJA 2009 Summer Tour EP which was released for free download in 2009, three new multitrack packages appeared on remix.nin.com, including Jane's Addiction's "Chip Away" and "Whores" and Street Sweeper's "Fight! Smash! Win!" (although this track is not featured on the EP).
