Versions
9 Ghosts I
This is the only known version. It begins with an odd decimated percussive beat, which sounds as if it is being heard over a radio. A calm piano melody enters, shortly joined with layers of quiet synths. Atmospheric drones fade in underneath and the beat, piano, and synths stop, as if the song is about to enter a B section. Dissonant strings begin to crescendo, but they cut off abruptly and are replaced with the beat and piano melody. These also end abruptly.
Live
"9 Ghosts I" has never been played live.
Differences in Artwork
It should be noted that much of the artwork embedded in the files of the official download of Ghosts I–IV from nin.com are not just cropped versions of the photographs in the PDF. In this case, the two photographs are completely different.
