The name Chiarello is mentioned in the logs.
I did a few searches and came up with one Fabio Chiarello, (fabio.chiarello@roma1.infn.it) who seems to be involved in Quantum computing, which is something mentioned a few times on the various web pages that branch off the pilgrims site. Fabio Chiarello right now is the major researcher in the field of SQUIDs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SQUID) or Superconducting Quantum Interference Devices.
In fiction: In Michael Crichton's 1999 novel Timeline, SQUIDs are mentioned as a part of the Quantum Teleportation device developed by ITC.
I downloaded a pdf of a research paper he did, if anyone wants to see it, but my theoretical physics is far from up to snuff to understand it.

There seems to be five bits of text.
Here's the legend for the symbols:
- : a letter that I can kinda guess on _ : An unknown letter
1) '-lace _______- a-d -e'
My conjecture is:
'place _______p(b) and ne'
2) '__ things and _-_wed'
My guess
'__ things are _k-wed'
3) 'g_t, ____, __'
4) all I can make out is an e
5) 'go to hell - and -o'
my guess is
'go to hell - and to'
