Interpretation
The song is in some ways different from most other Nine Inch Nails songs specifically in its theme of devotion, while still maintaining an air of desperation as the song's narrator clings to the only thing, or only person left in the oppressive world around him that "means anything."

Versions
We're In This Together
This is the original album version, found on The Fragile and three parts of We're In This Together. The mellow end coda of the song shares the piano theme of "La Mer." On the singles, the segues from "The Wretched" (in the beginning) and "The Fragile" (at the end) have been removed.
We're In This Together (Radio Edit)
In this edit, the intro is shortened and the coda is significantly shortened.
We're In This Together (Short Edit)
This was found only on the promo, and begins with the bridge before going to the first verse. The coda is shortened even more as well.
Music Video
The video for this song first aired in 1999, and was directed by Mark Pellington. It shows Trent Reznor and an army of black-clad people running frantically through empty buildings, streets, and eventually a desolate field where everyone except Reznor had disappeared. The video was filmed on location in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Live
Although "We're In This Together" is a single, it was not performed live until the Performance 2007 tour, where it entered the setlists alongside Last, another never before played song, This was a dream come true for many fans.
The song is performed in a lower key, presumably due to the vocal strain required to sing it as it appears in the album.
The song debuted at Lisbon, Portugal, and was played (at least) at three other shows.
The piano solo outro is greatly expanded in the live versions.
Lyrics
I've become impossible Holding on to when When everything seemed to matter more The two of us All used and beaten up Watching fate as it flows down the path we have chose You and me We're in this together now None of them can stop us now We will make it through somehow You and me if the world should break in two Until the very end of me Until the very end of you Awake to the sound as they peel apart the skin They pick and they pull Trying to get their fingers in Well they've got to kill what we found Well they've got to hate what they fear Well they've got to make it go away Well they've got to make it disappear The farther I fall I'm beside you As lost as I get I will find you The deeper the wound I'm inside you Forever and ever I am a part of You and me We're in this together now None of them can stop us now We will make it through somehow You and me If the world should break in two Until the very end of me Until the very end of you All that we were is gone we have to hold on All that we were is gone we have to hold on When all our hope is gone we have to hold on All that we were is gone but we can hold on You and me We're in this together now None of them can stop us now We will make it through somehow You and me Even after everything You're the queen and I'm the king Nothing else means anything
