Talk:Capital G (song)
From http://anotherversionofthetruth.com/artist.htm, Philomena writes:
When I was 17 my bf & me went to this show at a flashclub, this local band, not
great but loud, you know, and rumored to be very real, very Resistance with a
capital R.
Maybe Capital G is about a government so large and bold that it's Government with a capital G. That seems to be a big push of this concept. --Tsguitar 21:44, 22 February 2007 (PST)
God and Government. Same thing. Aeonite 21:50, 22 February 2007 (PST)
i was thinking along the same lines.. the guns god and government theory
I figured the G was for god. I think that's because it follows that "god for this one" lyric. Just sounded like that when I listened to it not focused for once 17:12, 10 April 2007 (PDT)Alfrin
Theories
I removed that section for a couple of reasons, First, it's just rampant speculation, it provides very little reason to believe it, Second, I think it's wrong, to me it seems to be about how people are "selling out" their beliefs and how that's not a good thing, but I don't think ideas like that really belong on the article itself, the disc. page or ETS is a much better place to talk about that.
The removed text is pasted below, I my have screwed up the formatting, as I'm a bit new to editing wikis Theories This track is possibly about George W. Bush (as his name starts with a capital G, as does G.O.P.), and problems with the election process. The line about the temperature in Guatemala is obviously a reference to global climate change, which he has done little to control.
I don't think that belongs in the main page. Waeayovooo 11:51, 6 April 2007 (PDT)
This is pretty idiotic
Not only are there multiple grammatical and spelling errors on this page, but the theories section is completely off base. If you want to have that 'non-political non-threatening' explanation of what the song is about, than, alright, it's a theory. But this song is blatantly about President George W. Bush. Not only does it say 'I pushed the button and elected him to office" it then says "and he signs his name with a capital G". Also, if Trent Reznor is singing from the point of view of someone who used to 'stand for something' and no longer cares for other people/things, and this person is the one that put capital G into office, then it's safe to assume Reznor is saying that those who put him into office are these such people. Not only do the lyrics STRONGLY suggest this as the true meaning of the song, but the incident Reznor had with MTV, along with how many times during the With_Teeth tour that he used images of Bush to portray the negative aspects of his song lyrics, both provide a background to his feelings towards Bush and what he has done as a President. Whether these opinions accurately reflect his fans or not, or if this interpretation would offend anyone who read it, does not matter, as it is clearly Reznor's view. - I think theories should stay at the bottom of the page, we don't want every yahoo posting their interpretations of songs. For example: I know some goth kid is going to think the great destroyer is about himself (barf) when it's infact about (atleast I think) about a vector for Red Horse. Plus why would capital G be about GW when this is way way after GW went out of office? 14 years to be exact. G could stand for Greed, or any other character in the ARG that has been elected. So in short, not for sure it's about the current president as of today -Velvolver 11:31, 11 April 2007 (PDT)
- Leo's been the one moving it to the top. So far the only theories being posted are the more or less widly accepted ones. People are free to elaborate, but if you feel a theory is unknown or not widly held you're encouraged to move it to the talk section :D -- BurnHavoc 3:04, 11 April 2007 (EST)
- If there is going to be a Theories subsection in the articles, it makes more sense for it to be near the top, with the rest of the general information about the song (Meanings, interpretations, relationships, etc.).
- As for the theory that it's about George W. Bush, it makes sense because he's the one who attacked other sovereign nations without Congressional approval.
- That's what I think anyway.--Leo3375 12:12, 11 April 2007 (PDT)
