About
Sanctified is the fourth song from track on the 1989 release Pretty Hate Machine album. It's best known for it's very tribal rhythms and distinctive bassline, though the original version of the song was apparently much brighter. A darker atmosphere was given to it for the Pretty Hate Machine version. The song appears to be about sex with a woman who the protagonist (Trent Reznor) is crazy about but is deathly afraid of. This could also be a metaphor for substance abuse.
