Talk:Act Patriotic
Discovery?
What are subnets and how does one go about scanning them? In other words, the discovery of this site is a complete mystery to me; I don't get it. Anyone care to expand a little bit? Thanks much. Tsguitar 22:55, 23 April 2007 (PDT)
- Subnets in this context refer to ranges of IP addresses that are the same in the first three bytes, and differ in the fourth byte. For example, 192.168.1.0 through 192.168.1.255 comprise one subnet. (Each component of an IP address is 1 byte and therefore can have a value from 0 to 255.) So, by "scanning a subnet," they mean they've taken existing ARG website IP addresses, and searched for active web servers on the other 255 IP addresses associated with that subnet. Note that webservers are very unlikely (though it's not impossible) to have an IP address ending in 0 or 255. (Networking fancypants will be quick to point out oversimplifications in my explanation, but that's the basic idea.) --Mr z 05:31, 24 April 2007 (PDT)

bad request?
anyone else getting the message "Bad Request (Invalid Hostname)" when they click the link? perhaps the server's down, or maybe it's something else? not sure. Tocz 21:49, 26 April 2007 (PDT)
I am too. something weird is going on. Maybe we accidently found this page and it's really in one of the new garage band files? Blank 22:02, 26 April 2007 (PDT)
Maybe it was the origanal thing for exhibit 24. It's not on there list too. Blank 03:42, 28 April 2007 (PDT)
Perhaps we discovered it too early.
- Well, either way, it's been taken down. Should we remove it from the home page? --Electric 11:32, 29 April 2007 (PDT)
- I was actually thinking that maybe Reznor/the company got mad/frustrated that we found this page before it was finished/edited (as we did with others) and since we found it early, he/they scrapped it and will/has put it onto another page. Kind of, when we scanned those subnets and found this page, we were kind of - in essence - reading an authors work before they were finished with the novel... So maybe it'll show up in a different way...
- But I don't think it should be taken off the front page, but I think we should put a hyphen with info on it being scrapped on the main page's link. Jgrizzy89 19:49, 29 April 2007 (PDT)
This page existed before the bad request as a transmition in progress perhaps it's part of the storyline could BOM have done this? could a change in the timeline? just thoughts ylbissop 21:54, 29 April 2007 (PDT)
Real Discovery
On Echoing The Sound Twisterxiz is stating that Act Patriotic was found in Vessel during 3:03 to 3:06 in the echoing voices. It was found the same way as the pain wreckage. Blank 02:29, 10 May 2007 (PDT)
- Heard a voice during that time. Sounds like "break", but we all know it's propably act patrioctic. haha. oh well. --Electric 14:03, 20 May 2007 (PDT)
speculation? or not.
I moved "It is also safe to assume that the page will not be brought back as it is not cataloged in the Exhibit 24 pages." here I know allot of people agree with it but it was bothering me that it assumes the page will never return and that Exibit 24 is some sort of complete archive whitch i dont think it is. I think it's a log of evidence not a log of all the YZ sites. am i making sense to anyone else?
- i agree with you. the yz gov't probably just hasn't found it yet, since it is so off and on. Tocz 09:04, 4 June 2007 (PDT)
- Well... I'm assuming the ARG isn't over. Reznor spoke of a follow up, didn't he? Maybe there will be a few more sites "leaked". There's still a lot to be explained. Ne0v001
Strange coincidence, or not?
At January 13, 2007, a forum for the game Vanishing Point states that the IP range where www.vanishingpointgame.com points to is 207.97.210.184-207.97.210.191. It's the same IP range to where www.actpatriotic.net still points to, 207.97.210.190. It's a range acquired by a company called Rackspace, Sprinfield NH in 2004. It still owns this range. - I couldn't find the page you are referring to. Either way, it is most likely a coincidence, or an error sheepdean Try to speak as clearly as you can 12:47, 20 July 2010 (PDT)
Theory
Maybe this was originally going to be the price of treason site, but they changed it after they bought the domains. The reason they left it up may be because they were thinking they might as well use it. Its just a theory though. aldude999 12.02.11
