Every Day Is Exactly The Same (Live At Rehearsals)
"Every Day Is Exactly The Same" is the sixth track on the 2005 release With Teeth. It seems to be about addiction and overcoming it. There are also possible references to George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four.
In 2007 it was nominated for the Grammy for "Best Hard Rock Performance" but lost it to "Woman" by Wolfmother.

Every Day Is Exactly The Same (Edit)

Every Day Is Exactly The Same (Live At Rehearsals)
This version of the song is exclusive to the Beside You In Time DVD. It was filmed and recorded in the band's rehearsal space in early 2005.
Music Video
There were plans for a music video to be directed by Jonathan Glazer, but it was scrapped during post-production, not long after details about the video leaked to the web. Reznor commented on the scrapped video on Echoing the Sound:
Regarding EDIETS, there will be no video released. I made a mistake. The good news is that mistake has acted as a catalyst for me to rethink a number of decisions regarding the direction and position of the band I've made and will be making in the future. The enemies from outside and within have been identified and I am back on track.
- Meathead created a Flash Video for the song based on the leaked information.
- Footage of a performance from tour rehearsals is included in the Beside You In Time DVD as a special feature.
Live
"Every Day Is Exactly The Same" has been played live since the Live: With Teeth tour in 2005.
Lyrics
I believe I can see the future Because I repeat the same routine I think I used to have a purpose And then again that might have been a dream I think I used to have a voice Now I never make a sound I just do what I've been told I really don't want them to come around Oh no Every day is exactly the same There is no love here and there is no pain Every day is exactly the same I can feel their eyes are watching In case I lose myself again Sometimes I think I'm happy here Sometimes I still pretend I can't remember how this all got started But I can tell you —exactly— How it will end Every day is exactly the same Every day is exactly the same There is no love here and there is no pain Every day is exactly the same I'm writing on a little piece of paper I'm hoping someday you might find I'll hide it behind something They don't look behind I am still inside here A little bit comes bleeding through I wish this could have been any other way I just don't know what else I can do Every day is exactly the same
Additional lyrics printed in the With Teeth PDF booklet, but not appearing in the song itself
And I've rehearsed my lines And I know what's coming next
