Hoping for a bit of help getting another discography made into a wiki
Hi Tony. I won't make this unnecessarily long, but I was hoping that in thce spirit of the Wikipedia-type appearance of this site, you might be able to help me out with something. Since 1997 I have been the webmaster for the most comprehensive discography for the band Live. My collection of discography items grew to 853 releases before I started selling it last year. Basically, I have been planning to revamp the discography site for Live, and I've decided that going the route of a wiki is the best option. Furthermore, I really like the look and versatility of Wikipedia (and ninwiki), and I was hoping to start the Live discography wiki in the same style. However...I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out how to install the software necessary for designing one (I've downloaded the latest version from MediaWiki, but I'm lost after that). The current Live discography I've got is being hosted on servers located in the same city I live in, and I get the impression from the literature at MediaWiki that I have to upload and install the softweare to those servers....or, am I way off?
In short, you guys here at ninwiki got this thing off to a great start, and I'm confident I will be able to create an amazing environment for the Live discography as a wiki....I just need a bit of advice or help at the beginning stages. Again, once I've got the basic framework up and I can begin editing it myself, I will require no additional help. I know it might be asking for a few minutes of your time, and for a band discography that you might not care about, but I'm asking for any direction you can give me. What exactly do I need to do to get my own wiki started?
Any help would be great. If you'd like to show the other admins and founders of ninwiki this post, I would be grateful. Swami 08:11, 24 August 2008 (PDT)
