105th Airborne Crusaders
A military unit formed in the fictional world of Year Zero. The unit seems to have formed after the bio-terrorism attack in Los Angeles that is described in the Hollywood in Memoriam website. Members of the unit seem to all share a deep belief in Christianity, and use their faith as motivation in the war.
10 Miles High
A NIN song that initially appeared on the vinyl edition of The Fragile. Versions of this track can be found in the UK version of We're In This Together and Things Falling Apart.

Danny Lohner
Former NIN member whom has played bass, guitar, and synthesizer. Danny has also played for A Perfect Circle, Tapeworm, Killing Joke, Methods of Mayhem, Skrew, and Angkor Wat. Due to the Trent's relationship with Marilyn Manson, Danny had also played acoustic guitar on the track "The Reflecting God" from the Antichrist Superstar album.
Darren Kroupa
A NIN fan whom died on April 1, 2007. It is understood that Darren met Trent via The Francis Foundation. He was allowed to visit with NIN during the production of the Year Zero album, where this photo was taken. Darren was eventually incorporated into the fictional Year Zero world on the website Secure Broadcast Informatics.
Dave Grohl
Former drummer of Nirvana and creater and current front man of Foo Fighters. He contributed as a drummer on some of the tracks on the With Teeth album.

Included are many references to the actions various individuals and groups, providing a broader understanding of how people are fighting for their freedoms in Year Zero.

Fragility
The name given to the tour in 1999-2000 that was in support of the album The Fragile. The first leg was called Fragility v1.0 and took place in Europe, Japan, and Australia. The second leg was called Fragility v2.0 and took place in North America and European festivals. From the Fragility v2.0 leg of the tours, the CD/DVD, And All That Could Have Been was made.
Fragility v1.0

Not So Pretty Now
A track originally from the With Teeth outtakes. There is currently no commercial release of this track, although it has been played during Live: With Teeth tour.

Nottingham flyer
At the Nottingham concert, fliers were found which at first seemed to contain hidden text possibly relating to the world of Year Zero.
Now I'm Nothing
A track that was written for, and used as an introduction track to NIN's set during the Lollapalooza tour in 1991. It was usually followed by "Terrible Lie," and was never recorded in the studio nor officially released. A live video of it can, however, be found on the DVD release of Closure and certain bootlegs.

One Country At A Time
A website created for the fictional world of Year Zero. The website jumps between the narrative of teenager and a comic strip of soldiers in Syria.

Opal
A substance from the fictional world of Year Zero. Due to global warming, the coca leaves used to make cocaine rot too quickly to use. Opal has taken the place of the dwindling cocaine supply.
Opalescent Haze
A website that appeared a few days prior to the release of Year Zero. The site was originally thought to be one of the Year Zero websites, but was quickly revealed to be a fake.

Open Source Resistance
A website created as part of the Year Zero experience, but not set in the fiction world of Year Zero. The website encourages people to submit works that will help awareness of the issues which could lead to a world like that in Year Zero.
Operation Chip Sweep
A website created for the fictional world of Year Zero. The website seems to be a part of some kind of news organization, and talks about the Nerochip in Great Briton.
Operation Swamp 0000
A website created for the fictional world of Year Zero. This site appears to have been constructed by one of the "chip-pullers" mentioned on Operation Chip Sweep. It contains detailed instructions, complete with photographs, on safe removal of a nerochip from one's own body.

Short for Open Source Resistance.

Parepin
A drug from the fictional world of Year Zero. This drug is put into the water supply in the United States to help combat biological terrorism. Although, opponents of the drug claim that its use is to change serotonin and dopamine levels to keep the population sedated and easy to manipulate.
Peaches
The stage name for Merrill Beth Nisker. She is the front of the band Peaches and (the) Herm, whom opened for NIN during the second half of their summer 2006 U.S. tour.
The Perfect Drug

Philomela
A character from the fictional world of Year Zero. She is a member of the Another Version Of The Truth Forums. She claims to be partially responsible for the death of a local man that was reported in the papers.

A hidden track off of the Broken album. It is a remake of the Adam Ant song from his album Kings of The Wild Frontier.
Piggy
The second track off of The Downward Spiral. Versions of this track appear on Further Down The Spiral and And All That Could Have Been.

The first track off of Further Down The Spiral. This track is a remix of Piggy.
Pilgrimage
The ninth track on the left disc of The Fragile. There are currently no other versions of this track.
Pilgrims
A group from the fictional world of Year Zero. The goal of the group is to send information back in time to the year 2007 in order to stop the world of Year Zero from happening.

The first track off of Broken. There are no other versions of this track, however there is a video which is on the Closure release.

Short for Pretty Hate Machine.

The fifth track on the right disc of The Fragile. There are no other versions of this track currently, however, on the cassette version of The Fragile, the track has an extra section.
Pretty Hate Machine
Also known as Halo 2. This was the first official full-length album released by NIN.
Purest Feeling
The "unofficial" first album by NIN. This album was recorded as a demo, but was later released by Hawk Records following the success of The Downward Spiral. Most of the tracks from this album were later re-recorded to make Pretty Hate Machine.

Queens Of The Stone Age
A band whom opened for NIN during the autumn leg of the With Teeth arena tour. Reznor has provided guest vocals for QOTSA's 2007 record, Era Vulgaris.

Red Horse
A virus in the fictional world of Year Zero. Victims of this virus are prone to homicidal psychosis and massive hemorrhaging from lachrymal ducts, ears anus, and urethra. The virus is highly contagious and may spread via airborne means. The mortality rate is 100% within 48 hours. See Redhorsevector.net for more details.
Red Horse Vector
A website created for the fictional world of Year Zero. This website talks about the Red Horse virus, an Ebola like virus which is less likely to fail due to climate conditions. There's information on symptoms, development, and also the development of a vaccine. It's also revealed through a video that this was the virus used to kill Jed Mather, the American diplomat, in Algeria.
Red pills
The nickname given to a type of drug in the fictional world of Year Zero. The pills are suppose to be given to soldiers to to reintroduce the aggression killed by Parepin.
Reptile
The twelfth track off of The Downward Spiral. Versions of this track appear on March of The Pigs and the And All That Could Have Been DVD.

A company that was started by George Reznor, great-great grandfather of Trent Reznor. The Reznor family has not had anything to do with the company in decades, despite it still using the Reznor name. You can read more here.

A former guitarist for NIN, and founder of the band Filter. Recently, he has been linked to the band, Army of Anyone as the lead singer.

A website created for the fictional world of Year Zero. The site appears to be for a communications company. But, there seems to be some peices of a puzzle scattered around the main site. Once the puzzle is put together, a password may be entered.
Self-Destruct Tour
This is widely regarded as the most chaotic era in the history of NIN performances. The tour is documented on tape/disc 1 of Closure.

Skinny Puppy
A notable Industrial band formed in the early 80's. The very first Nine Inch Nails shows were opening gigs for this band in 1988 and featured material from Pretty Hate Machine and Purest Feeling. Trent Reznor has claimed his "first song" 'Down In It' is a "total rip-off" of 'Dig It' by Skinny Puppy in a radio interview.

Solutions Backwards Initiative
A website created for the fictional world of Year Zero. This website is linked to the Secure Broadcast Informatics website, and seems to have been created by a group of individuals called, Pilgrims.

A web comic drawn by Anne Tai that revolves around the daily routines of Aaron North, Jeordie White, Alessandro Cortini and Jerome Dillon. While Trent Reznor is mentioned several times during the comic, he is never shown.
Star Chamber
According to U.S. Wiretap, Star Chamber was an underground club that participated in anti-government activity which suffered an attack from the Red Horse virus.
